So beautiful! 🤩 So inspirational! I’m gonna try it! Not sure how it’s going to go as I’ll obviously need to purchase a few items and work on sketching and technique. It *might* be possible. Thank you for sharing, Harry. Good day to you.
Thanks, Betty! That's odd about your symptoms with encaustic. Were you heating to below 210 degrees F.? Did you notice any vapours? If you were within the allowable temperature range, I don't know what the problem might have been.
It was a lot of years ago by now. I had an electric griddle and the first time i didn’t think ventilation was going to be a problem, as i was in a big warehouse studio with tall ceilings and lots of sq footage. Wrong. Second time , i could feel it starting in my tonsils. Actually there was a third time, i took an all day group workshop and i wore a serious ventilator all day. It was terrible because i couldn’t speak to anyone with that thing on, at all! 😹
If someone asked you to use a ventilator when doing encaustic, my suspicion is that they were heating the wax pigment at too high a temperature to be safe.
I did it myself (used a ventilator) as a precaution—because who has time for flu-like symptoms?! I know when i used encaustics on my own, I was counting on the griddle’s thermostat to be close enough

Thank you, Anna! I hope you'll enjoy it...it's a wonderful way to paint.
I love the set up and the paintings are gorgeous. The tree with the spots of red is my favorite.
Thank you, Kate!
What a helpful, thorough explanation of the encaustic process! With great visuals, too. A huge post, filled with valuable info. Thank you!
Sadly, something in encaustics gives me symptoms like a bad case of flu. I had to do it twice before it dawned on me 🤦🏽♀️
