I enjoyed reading this, Harry! As a late starter after a long non-art teaching career (mathematics was my subject), I’ve been studying with many teachers both in person and on line! Catherine Kehoe and Ken Kewley are among them and fabulous! I continue with thirst for more and your message was timely today!
This is the best answer I get about Art Education, Thanks Harry. I am on my life journey to educate myself and your advice here helps a lot. It's a marathon... happy one.
Thank you as always for your wisdom and advice! It is sad that ideas aren’t allowed to be freely expressed at universities as they should be. The dichotomy is interesting in that we face a time where college presidents are asked to step down for protecting antisemitic speech while classes teaching about racism, history and feminism are being banned. On the bright side it is very difficult to really stamp out completely a good idea.
I’ve enjoyed classes and artist interviews at Blackpond tremendously. I would love to go sometime in person! Especially to take a class with Catherine Kehoe who I have admired for a few years now. Her website is a treasure trove of fantastic artists. Also Zoey Frank teaches online workshops that are taped and available on her website and they are absolutely fantastic! I hope others pitch in and list places where great workshops are being held virtually and on site.
Thanks, Brandy! Yes, definitely go in person to one of Catherine Kehoe's classes, and to any others that are offered at her great place! It's a good idea to collect and list good online and in-person classes....I might ask people to make recommendations and then I can do an email posting just on that.
Thank you so much for this very helpful article. I loved the video about Dana Schutz. I am looking for a figurative/portrait class for January and would love any suggestions. Love your work and your life approach, Harry.
Thanks for sharing the Marsden Hartley video. I really enjoyed it. I have always loved Hartley's landscapes.
Thank you. This was so timely for me!
Thank you, Elizabeth! Glad you enjoyed it.
